CONTEXTUAL UNDERSTANDING IS IMPORTANT

INTENT VERSUS CONSEQUENCE -  POWER OF CONTEXTUAL KNOWLEDGE

Some fish were enjoying surfing up and down the ponds surface one bright sunny afternoon.

A man observed a monkey gently catch a fish from the pond and then rush up the tree and place it there on top of a branch.

Curious, he went alongside and asked the monkey to explain what he was doing.

"Nothing, Just saving the fish from drowning in this deep pond"

WHERE LIES THE ANGER? FINALLY DISCOVERED

A very interesting one posted by the former Principal of my school Don Bosco Matriculation School,  Chennai.

Read below...

A monk decides to meditate alone, away from his monastery. He takes his boat out to the middle of the lake, moors it there, closes his eyes, and begins his meditation.

After a few hours of undisturbed silence, he suddenly feels the bump of another boat colliding with his own. With his eyes still closed, he senses his anger rising, and by the time he opens his eyes, he is ready to scream at the boatman who dared to disturb his meditation.

But when he opens his eyes, he sees it’s an empty boat that had probably got untethered and floated to the middle of the lake.

At that moment, the monk achieves self-realization and understands that the anger is within him; it merely needs the bump of an external object to provoke it out of him. From then on, whenever he comes across someone who irritates him or provokes him to anger, he reminds himself, “The other person is merely an empty boat.

The anger is within me.”

Quotes: The Power of Learning in Nano Bytes, 52 in 52 W

Quotes are a powerful way of learning.  When the quote is bundled with some insight it has a powerful ability to channelize and bring focus to what we want to convey,  learn or transfer as the message.

Over the next 52 weeks, I am publishing about 1 quote per week that can resonate in many areas at work or personal life.  Basically, it's Twitter and LinkedIn that will be the host site to share these quotes.

All quotes will be original and created by me in a poetic or literal style and distill something for the reader.   Feel free to comment, like, dislike, agree or disagree and share your thoughts.

Have fun,  Keep Rocking !!

Invert the Diversity Focus Pyramid

If you look at your Diversity Focus today and find that you are towards the left side of the graphic it means you need to invert the pyramid. Generally, the focus today for many organizations is on compliance and marketing which take over 80 to 90% of the effort. This means that the typically visible elements would be reporting what percent of your workforce is women leaders or the percentage of women in the organization or hiring ratio of one segment of employees as a percentage of your effort. Further, a large effort would go into marketing and branding your diversity effort.

Think of it. The real purpose of diversity was not to comply to some standards or to some mandated numbers but to ensure that diversity helps organization performance become better by not just augmenting but nurturing and then driving inclusion. If we don't have right inclusion focus then the very diversity leverage that we want to achieve will only backfire and we will find people quite as there is not place for them and diversity efforts only drown in the din and hype that surround these programs.

The figure above shows an inverted pyramid should be your focus. 60 to 70% effort should go into efforts to encourage and use diversity to benefit of the organization and only about 20 to 40 % should be an effort towards the marketing and compliance issues.

Business and HR leaders should own and drive these efforts towards diversity focus and define what impact it can bring for the organization.

Till you are convinced where you stand let the quest be ON.... Happy Fulfilment Efforts !!!

Faulty Thinking Lies at the Bottom of Many A Problem We face...

Some reflections over the weekend....

Live Life On Your Terms, Your Expectations should be yours and be sure it's not someone else piggybacking the expectations on your shoulders.

Seek to fulfill your own dreams and don't chase dreams of others.

Speak to a few close trusted confidants (never just one) to validate when in doubt or when things seem to hit a wall.

Never hesitate to express your fears and shortcomings to someone trusted. If you need professional help, it is always OK. We are normal human beings, and it is but natural to undergo periods of stress, anxiety. That's what life is all about.

A person is not a failure just because some goals were missed. The fact is that the way it (the goal) was approached may have been wrong, or someone actually did it better. Or just that luck was not on our side.

Analyze your thought patterns once in a while (if you worry a lot do it once a month to start, later go to once a quarter or once a year). What kind of thoughts do we have? Our thoughts lead to emotional expressions which in turn drive behaviors and consequences. Most of the time our misery is due to faulty thinking.

Corporate Learning In Perspective

With Disruption being the new given and change being nothing but a truly ubiquitous phenomenon today, how do organizations survive the emerging landscape? We had an interesting discussion at the IIM Bangalore Future of Learning Summit, 2020 just a while ago before the world shifted into a mode where everyone is fighting the same problem in a lockdown mode.

Many challenges across six different dimensions were discussed during the panel discussion at IIM Bangalore. I had the privilege to moderate the discussion with my colleagues from the industry.
